JUNK TO SCRAPTURE

A SEDONA HAPPENING

Come to play at Sedonas First Annual Scrapture Fest on September 10, 2005 at the Posse Grounds Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park. Designed as an intergenerational community event, all are welcome between 9 am and 5 pm to bring materials that otherwise would languish in landfills: wood, metal, wire, plastic, Plexiglas. With the help of prominent local artists, all comers will be encouraged to tap into their creative spirits and make wind chimes. At days end, fledgling artists may submit their art to a raffle. Tickets will cost $1 each or 6 for $5.

We hope the community will chime in, states Jodi Filardo chairperson for the event. It will be a true fun happening, a rich communal experience--and admittance will be FREE. Thanks to such sponsors as Troias, Sedona Recycles, Blevins Construction, West Sedonas Ace Hardware, and  the Sedona Excentric; thanks to hours of volunteer support, well have lots to do and see at the Scrapture Fest.

During the day, a variety of entertainers will perform for the gathering including the Sedona Youth Band, Michael the Yo-Yo man, the Abandoned Minds,  tall tale teller Michael Peach, poet Christopher Lane and comrades,  Steve and Maggie the new guitar duo the Cornville Philharmonic, a group of drummers,  and dancers from Sedonas new dance studio, the Light Vibe Dance Troupeand others.

Artists wholl be on hand to guide chime-makers include Barbara Brown,  Fuller Barnes, Liam Herbert, Lisa Pearce, Bob Siracusa, Sally Stryker, Rich Kimble, Theodosia Greene and others according to Marilyn Winebarger, coordinator of the artists.

People are encouraged to bring picnics though some food and water will be available. One persons junk is some elses art project, says James Bishop Jr. co-chair of the Friends of the Posse Grounds. To see art is one thing. But to be involved with it is another. At the end of the day, what once was regarded as trash will have become art.

To find the park off Highway 89A head up Posse Grounds Road to the top of the hill. The Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park, and all the fun, will be located on the right-hand side of the street just before the skate park. Parking will be located across the street at the baseball diamonds.
